CALICO craft a unique listening on experience on record, "Under a Sudden Sun"
On their debut album Under a Sudden Sun, CALICO have masterfully crafted up a listening experience made for those hot summer months. We are loving this one! Read on for our full review of the record, as well as a background on the band.
For those out of the loop on CALICO, the band is led by singer songwriter Tony Cecchetti, Chris Couto (percussion), JeanSe Le Doujet (Bass) and Will Lloyd (Electric Guitar). Together they’ve managed to create a soulful masterpiece on their debut album Under a Sudden Sun. Filled with a positive feeling of nostalgia and a dose of optimism, this feel good record is one that we’re highly recommending all to listen to as soon as possible.
Coming in at 8 total tracks, spanning just around 30 serene minutes, this was the perfect bite size record that we could foreseeably see ourselves spinning at a moment’s notice. In its feel and atmosphere, it’s surely got a calming presence to it, however there were seemingly endless positives to point out. The lyricism provided a nice story line to follow along to, but Tony’s vocals are really what kept us going. The softness and overall welcoming of his voice had us laser focused on every word delivered, a definite highlight for us overall.
What we can’t fail to mention is the instrumentation side of things because every member of CALICO showed up in a huge way. No one overpowered one another and the mixing on the record was nailed in such a way that everyone could be heard perfectly at once. You’ll experience some killer bass lines, expert drum fills, and rhythm guitar that’ll have you lost in the sound in a wondrous way. To be honest, we’ve just really taken a liking to this record and need everyone to get into it as soon as they can. There aren’t really any glaring flaws we could point out and it’s got us super excited for what’s to come in the hopefully near future.
