Band Spectra serves up the nostalgia on single, "1980"
Taking a wild ride of nostalgia on Band Spectra’s newest song “1980”, we’ve quickly come to love their latest output. Do yourselves a favor and read on for our full featured review of the track, as well as a background on the band.
Influenced by the likes of Suicide, Ministry, and Prince, Band Spectra is the project coming from Robert Manning. Teaming up with Olugbenga Adelekan (Metronomy) on this unique sounding single for the band, “1980” is an ode to the decade that is virtually guaranteed to get you up, dancing, and fill you with joy from head to toe. If this is your first introduction to the music of Band Spectra, you’re in for a serious treat here.
Fueled by a wall of synthesizers, electronic beats, and a driving bass, the song really comes together with the use of Olugbenga’s falsetto that wraps the entire package up wonderfully. Although there really are so many nostalgic feeling elements infused to the song, there is a perfectly modern production that comes with the song too. It could be the seemingly infinite amounts of positive moments coming from the track, but we’re fairly certain there isn’t a single negative or critique to point out here altogether.
As this was our personal introduction to Band Spectra, you could say our expectations were blown out of the water with the quality of it at all. Their discography is growing quickly and we can’t wait to continue to dig into their past discography to uncover the gems that will definitely be showing themselves. Whether this is a permanent change in sound for the band going forward, we’ll welcome it either way with wide open arms.
