Automatic excel on genre-bending debut album, "Excess"

Completely blowing us away with their debut album titled Excess, Automatic have delivered on a genre-bending and ultimately mesmerizing listening experience. Please read on for our complete breakdown of the record, in addition to a background on this emerging band.

Having had a memorable year in regards to touring, releases, and so much more, Automatic’s big day is here as they’ve just shared their debut, Excess. Fresh off of opening for Tame Impala and performing at some of the world’s biggest festivals like Primavera Sound and Cruel World, it’s been an absolute pleasure to see their rise to greatness thus far. While the year isn’t necessarily over in the slightest, they’re capping the beginning of summer with something that we can only describe as upbeat, slightly psychedelic, and 100% worthy of your time and energy to check out.

Made up of Lola Dompé (drums, vocals), Izzy Glaudini (synths, lead vocals), Halle Saxon-Gaines (bass, vocals), Automatic are a power trio that have been turning heads as they’ve slowly been releasing singles over the year. Each has been better than the next, but listening to Excess in its entirety has paid off in dividends. Coming in at 10 total tracks, the band immediately immerses the listener into a diverse range of complex instrumentation that’s only amplified by an outrageous production. Through swirling synthesizers, bombastic drums, and Izzy’s refrained vocals that expertly set the tone and mood, you’re in for a cohesive album. We’d recommend that everyone out there give this an uninterrupted spin from start to finish in order to really groove and get into it all.

All set to play a special Excess release show at The Regent on Saturday, August 6 in Los Angeles,. the event will be supported by Los Angeles Community Action Network (LACAN), with Freedom Singers, a collective of musicians from the Skid Row community, opening and their resident visual artist Natosha Smith contributing to stage design. A portion of profits from the show will go directly to LACAN. For more info and to purchase tickets, go here.

While we don’t want to give away too much so as not to spoil, let us leave you with the strong urge to give this record a listen as soon as you can. We’ve also had the opportunity to witness them on tour and they don’t disappoint!
