Released officially on July 23, 2021, Alexis Keegan has put together a collection of songs and stories to create something charming and wholesome. On her latest output titled Empty Heart, the artist actually took these songs that had been played over the years, but never quite finalized in the recording process. Thankfully she did take the time, because the final product is one of the most moving and heartfelt records we’ve heard in quite some time.
On the origins of this record, Keegan states “Empty Heart was written about my journey with music and how sometimes it feels like an endless road but I love it too much to let go”. While each song certainly conveys its own message and opens the listener up to a period of Alexis’ life, there’s no doubt in our collective minds that the lyrics at hand can be relatable to all. The immense personality that comes through and the conviction within the tone is enough to make a casual listener resonate in the feelings of Alexis Keegan.
Speaking on the instrumentation, in just three total songs, Alexis has managed to hit a wide array of genres presented. Showing off her acoustic side and even a bit of R&B that initially inspired her to make music in the first place, this would be a lovely introduction to her as a whole if you haven’t yet listened. Considering this artist grew up developing her vocals in a Gospel choir in high school, she’s very obviously got a leg up on those who don’t quite know how to hit those high highs. To be honest, we would’ve been happy with a purely acapella version of Empty Heart, but the entire package was just as good.
Without giving too much else away, let us make it clear once again that every facet and moment on this EP is personal and genuine. You’re getting the much needed insight into an artist in the most soul bearing way, so we highly recommend you give it a listen as soon as you can.
