Outside Lands 2022: A Full Festival Recap
…and that’s a wrap! Outside Lands Music Festival in San Francisco, California continues to be one of the most innovative, inclusive, and downright action packed festivals in the world. Taking place this year between August 5th and 7th, we had the opportunity to attend the festival for the first time since 2015 and honestly, it’s only gotten better. Please check out our full recap of the weekend below.
Capitalizing off an already stellar lineup of some of music’s biggest staples and up and comers, we spent all day from when the gates opened until the final notes on the main stage exploring and discovering everything the festival had to offer. We arrived on Friday early afternoon and thankfully getting into the festival itself was easy, safe, and secure. We didn’t experience any lines holding us up and security was fairly thorough checking bags and making sure all the festival goers would have a worry free time. Immediately though we jet right off to the Lands End main stage to witness Cory Henry and the Funk Apostles open up the festival and throw down a funky, groovy, and downright euphoric set.
Not long after we split to the Sutro stage to see Spellling, who put out one of 2022’s most underrated records. To no surprise, they crushed it on stage and for those who got their early enough to visit, definitely experienced their greatness. Now one thing the average attendee might not realize if it was there first time is how Outside Lands also doubles and triples as a beer, wine, food, and art festival. You’ll realize it walking around, but you better have come hungry! We enjoyed some delicious Thai-inspired food from Satayisfied and some even better chicken shawarma wraps from the restaurant next door.
The hardest part about attending a festival by yourself is not having the ability or the budget to really enjoy all the food considering there’s 90+ places to eat. However, we definitely got our full of food, snacks, and drinks. We found ourselves at Beer Lands quite frequently sampling all they had to offer and really enjoyed a few different Hazy IPA’s that were also OSL-themed! Throughout the weekend we stopped into Wine Lands for a few different samplings, discovered some tasty bacon and chocolate treats, and also had multiple conversations with other attendees about their favorite foods. Thankfully we plan on coming back next year to do it all over again.
As for the music which is mainly the reason we came, we’ve got to give it up to OSL for consistently booking a wide array of musicians spanning all genres. Our personal tastes are quite eclectic, but wow, getting to see Phoebe Bridgers, Inner Wave, Green Day, Parcels, and so many more within the span of 72 hours is legitimately crazy. You break it down on how much you’d spent seeing them separately and the cost far outweighs the price tag of the festival wristband. With that being said though, it’s the experiences you make of getting to meet others while you’re there who are having equally as great of a time. Those moments are surely priceless and are memories you hold onto forever.
For now, we’ll be updating the Festival section of the website with individual set reviews that we particularly enjoyed. Make sure to stay up to date and stay tuned as well!
