After literal years of waiting, Joe Keery’s solo project called Djo made its way to The Glass House in Pomona, California for a night full of his classic tunes. We finally got to hear our favorite tracks off of 2019’s Twenty Twenty, along with some new ones off his upcoming album. Do yourselves all a favor and check out our full concert review and photo gallery below.

Known for his work in Stranger Things and as a past member of psychedelic rock band Post Animal, Joe Keery and his solo project Djo put out our absolute favorite album of 2019 called Twenty Twenty. Filled to the brim with inventive instrumental passages, his divine vocals, and a top tier production, it’s one of the most fun and accessible records we’d heard in quite some time. He played a couple sold out shows at the Moroccan Lounge shortly after its release, but unfortunately we were unable to attend. However, he’s been on the road as of late finally getting around to touring this now classic record.

While the set itself started out a bit rocky during their opener “Personal Lies” where the bassists' string broke and their system shut down and had to reboot, they came out for a second appearance and got through the set flawlessly. A massive reason why we fell in love with this record in the first place was because of its subtle production effects and the general spaciness that it held, but unfortunately it just didn’t translate quite as well live as we had anticipated. That’s not to say we didn’t have a blast watching it all go down, especially with a crowd as lively as this one, but it left a little more to be wanted by the end.

With having only one record out, the set itself still lasted over an hour and Djo even broke out some new songs that have yet to be debuted off of an upcoming album that has a TBA release date. We will say that the new songs sounded quite nice and have a ton of promise, but it’s going to be incredibly difficult to follow up the greatness that is Twenty Twenty. For now, we’ll be keeping our hopes up high.

All that being said though, don’t let our review deter you from being your own judge. As a newly touring band, there’s always going to be moments of figuring it out and fine tuning the set for a prosperous future. If they’re coming to a city near you, grab a ticket!
