Yog n The Milk Bottle Gang delivers big on debut, "Ghost of Cheapside, Vol 1"

After nearly 15 years of putting the wheels in motion to complete it all, Yog n The Milk Bottle Gang has finally released his debut record, Ghost of Cheapside, Vol 1. We are loving it! Read on for an in-depth look at the album, as well as a background on the artist.

While the name of his project hints at a full band setup, what you’re actually hearing from Yog n The Milk Bottle Gang is one dedicated singer and songwriter currently based out of London. Heavily influenced by the works of Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, and so many more, Ghost of Cheapside, Vol 1 expertly encapsulates those inspirations with a whole lot of originality and freshness that have come flooding in. We’ve gotten a taste over the past couple years due to singles being released, but the full album has surpassed our wildest expectations with its genuine feeling.

Through 11 genre-bending tracks that span from stories surrounding heartbreak or so-called “tragic London tales”, you can’t help but feel a sincerity and rawness from the stories being told. Of course this record really has been in the works for so long, so there’s a ton to tell, but each song acts as its own little chapter in a “book” that’s worth listening to. You can’t help but be impressed by the instrumentation that covers the spectrum of bright and vibrant to sultry and melancholy, but the changes in tone make this open to anyone who’s feeling any type of mood. Lyrically speaking though, that’s where this album most likely shines the brightest as the songwriting is next level in terms of painting a picture for the listener.

The first thought going through our collective heads after being left with optimism and positivity on the first listen was the true hope that it’s not another 15 years until we can get more. Obviously art takes time, but falling in love with songs like “Paradox of Time” and “The Destructive Art of Solitude” instantly gave us the need for a follow up. The artist truly spans so much sound and genre on just one record, so we’re super interested to see how his next endeavor shapes up. For now, we can’t help but overwhelmingly recommend a listen as soon as possible.
