Wind Meets West shares his whimsical new single, "If I Go"
Review by Austin Sher
Released today on August 14th, 2020, Wind Meets West has returned with a fitting end of summer single, “If I Go”. Read along with us as we give our review on his newest track, as well as a bit of background on the artist as well.
Currently based out of Queens, NY, Wind Meets West is a pop singer, songwriter, and producer. The story behind “If I Go” goes that he was writing this song while deciding whether to stay in New York City to pursue a blossoming relationship, or to move back home to Los Angeles to be closer to family. It’s a common problem that a lot of coming of age adults experience, but what better way to make up your mind, than to put it into song.
The artist has been featured on playlists such as Spotify’s “New From NYC: Pop” and has built up quite the following on his Spotify page with over 30,000 streams already. If you like “If I Go”, which you definitely will, you can expect more from Wind Meets West as his upcoming EP, WHENIMOUTOFHERE gets released in January of 2021.
Onto the music, we honestly really enjoyed what we heard on this track! He describes it as a “wistful” end of summer song, which it absolutely is. It gives off the feelings of things closing and new things opening, maybe such as seasons or parts of our lives.
The instrumentation is quite diverse as we enter the song with a keyboard, almost synthesizer like, until the lyrics come on and you can immediately tell it’s a story being told. One of our favorite parts of songs like this are quick intros that set a base for what you’re going to experience that happen to have a story close to the heart being portrayed.
The vocals on the track are also spectacular, it brings the song full circle and really shows off the artist’s vocal range behind the succinct drumming features as well. Considering this is only the first song coming from Wind Meets West off the upcoming EP, it’s no surprise that we’re absolutely looking forward to hearing a full record full of songs just like these. If this is any indication as to what’s to come, you can say we’re quite excited. With that being said, give it a listen!
