Van Go Go return for tell all on single, "Get Up To You" - Interview

Staying incredibly busy and always aiming to expand their sound, Van Go Go have just unleashed another stellar single, “Get Up To You”. We caught up with guitarist Jason Schaller for a full interview to hear about the single, so please check it out in full below.

Nearly two years after our first interview back in November of 2020, Van Go Go have been hard at it continuously pumping out a wide variety of rock-based music. Over the years they’ve certainly played around with their sound, but at the heart of it, they’re still very much that band we fell in love with on the initial listen. Their latest single “Get Up To You” is a synth-driven track that definitely feels different from others, but is still jam packed with soul and meaningful lyricism. Of course, we’ve got to highly recommend it for everyone out there to give a listen.

If you happen to be unfamiliar with Van Go Go, the band is made up of Nathan Mackinder (vocals), Jason Schaller (guitar), Paxton Olney (bass) and Jonah Brockman (drums). During our conversation with Jason, he so eloquently gave us the background details on everything we needed to know surrounding the creation of this track, the meaning behind it, and even a look towards the future regarding more touring and new music. Honestly though, it was such a treat to be able to speak with him again and hear all the major updates and shifts the band has experienced over the past two years.

As for this song, ultimately it’s about “the journey to achieve the love you deserve”. It’s all too relatable in the sense that it’s true, for the majority we should all be getting what we deserve on that front. However, Van Go Go has managed to share the message in this atmospherically beautiful way, featuring a plethora of their own musical inspirations and influences. It dates back to glimmers of the 80’s all meshed together with today’s modern rock, but holds that signature edge that the band has been shooting for since their first single. Plain and simple, we love it, and we can't’ wait for you to hear all about it in our conversation.
