Imlac returns with genre-bending new single, "Chasing Birds"
Incorporating a mesmerizing mix of styles and genres, Imlac has completely crushed it with the fresh release of his thrilling single, “Chasing Birds”. Read on for a much closer look into the track, as well as a background on this talented artist.
For this Scottish singer and songwriter named Imlac, he’s only recently started officially releasing music under his name, but has been all over the place in the streets of Europe playing his tunes. Following up his debut EP Black Fire, which we also thoroughly enjoyed, he’s just delivered another stellar single called “Chasing Birds” that infuses elements of Rock, Blues, Folk, and a healty dose of his signature essence. Whatever label you’d like to put on it, it barely matters as we think the music speaks for itself on a grander scale.
With elements of soul coursing throughout “Chasing Birds” too, his influences from some of the greats like Van Morrison or Muddy Waters are right at the forefront. Thankfully though, there’s still an immense amount of originality flowing throughout the song. On our initial listen, the major standout was undoubtedly Imlac’s vocals, an impressive display of raspiness, power, and the ability to command the listener within the first few notes. You get stuck and immersed into his every word as you’re hit with twists and turns due to his dynamic vocal range. On the instrumental side of things, there was certainly no shortage in pulling attention either. The tone that was achieved in the guitar so perfectly resonated with us, and absolutely fit the vibe and overall tone of the track.
At a little bit over four minutes in runtime, an underappreciated highlight was how quickly it zoomed right by. It had more than enough time to breathe and expand itself through solos and nicely timed pauses, but at the end of it, we found ourselves desperately hoping for more. As this is the first single shared since 2021, let’s hope that there’s a ton more on the way, because it’s this brand of music we need more of in our lives.
