Ultrafox returns to talk sophomore album, "Ultrafox 2" - Interview
Fresh off the release of their sophomore record titled Ultrafox 2, we got the special opportunity once again to speak with Jimmy Karamanis of Ultrafox all about the record. Please watch our full interview below.
Blending together an always eclectic mix of what they would consider to be dance fusion with a jazz emphasis, Ultrafox have nailed it once again on their second record, Ultrafox 2. It’s been slightly over a year since our last conversation with Jimmy Karamanis, so you can only imagine our sheer delight as we got the chance to catch up on what the band has been up to, a necessary insight into the creation of the album, and even an outlook on what’s being cooked up for the next year. If this happens to be your introduction to their music, it’s a perfect entry point to explore the rest of their discography.
Made up of six unbelievably talented jazz musicians, Ultrafox has managed to somehow kick it up a notch compared to their first effort. Intensifying the grooves, vibrance, and not leaving a single second of silence, it’s one of those records that only gets better with repeated listens. During our conversation with Jimmy, a focal point was how you’re really only able to process hearing so much when embarking on a new album. On Ultrafox 2, there’s so many different motifs and new ideas coming to fruition as you hit the play button, it would be simply impossible to absorb it all with one run through. This isn’t a clever way to get you to listen more, rather the music is so top tier you’d be a fool not to give it repeated listens.
Through seven songs that span right around thirty minutes, the compositions have widened in their breadth of influence and inspiration. As each member brings something new to the table from their own preferences, the music reflects that in its diversity of sound and style. According to Jimmy, he thinks that this is completing “phase one of Ultrafox as a band and going forward we’ll continue to hone our music and innovate further, while still keeping our jazzy flavor”. Truly, whatever they decide to release, it’s going to be baseline awesome. There’s a plan to keep things more cohesive on future records, but even if it’s not, we can virtually guarantee it’s going to be worth checking out.
