The Northway undeniably shred on latest album, "Shocking Stories! (And Those Who Dare to Tell Them)"

Released this past month in October, The Northway have officially debuted their rocking new album, Shocking Stories! (And Those Who Dare to Tell Them). Let us just say, we absolutely loved it! Read along with us for our full thoughts on the record, in addition to a brief background on the band as well.
For those who may be unaware, The Northway are a punk outfit project from Albany, New York. They’re currently fusing elements of punk rock sounds with progressive rock. The group consists of four goofballs who probably spend just as much time sharing memes as they do rehearsing and writing. Besides their music writing and creativity, isn’t half the fun of being in a band to bond with your bandmates in unexplainable ways?
Regardless of that, these “goofballs” are creating fantastic pop punk music that’s turning ears all around. While this was our first venture into the band’s music, we’d like to kick things off by confidently saying that we’ll be keeping a close eye on whatever else they plan on churning out in the future. As massive lovers of the genre, our standards are always a notch higher, however Shocking Stories certainly exceeded our expectations.
Coming in at 10 songs, spanning 40 wonderful minutes, this is a dose of rock and roll that we all truly need in our lives. To put it as bluntly as possible, it shreds. With the almost stereotypical punk sounding vibe that they put off, it’s so refreshing to know that bands are still creating this type of music. As it seems so many groups lean towards the more pop side, The Northway are sticking to the roots of the genre and straight up having fun with things.
While we know they’re friends, you can just hear the closeness in the music in the way that it comes off. All across songs on the record, such as the opener “Skateboard Pedalboard”, “One Man Down”, and “Tiny House Spaceship”, it’s just beyond cohesive. They’ve really nailed the specific sound they were going for and churned out a top notch record that we’re highly suggesting and recommending all who come across this article listen to.
Honestly, it brings us back to the days of playing Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater (which was even mentioned in the lyrics). It brings us to a carefree time in our lives where the only music we were listening to was slightly rebellious, in addition to something we could headbang to. This is 100% scratching the youth itch we unknowingly needed. So what are you waiting for? Get listening ASAP!
