The Marsh Family revitalize a Christmas classic on reimagined "In the Bleak"

Putting their own spin on a Christmas classic right in the midst of the holiday season, The Marsh Family have just shared their latest, “In the Bleak”. Read on as we give our thoughts on the track, in addition to a background on the band.

Crafting out their own niche for a holiday classic, “In the Bleak”, The Marsh Family have simply gone above and beyond with this reimagining of the Christmas carol. Compared to the original, listeners will experience an incredibly inspired version that imparts folk rock into the mix, but still giving you that genuine feeling of being right in the middle of the season. Through dynamic vocals and expressive harmonies, we can’t recommend enough that everyone out there make this a staple of their seasonal playlists.

Having now had the opportunity to enjoy the original and this updated version, dare we say we sincerely prefer this! Honestly, it feels as though there’s so much more heart and genuine passion that’s come through in the composition, and even more of an emphasis on the meaning behind it all. The song itself stands for “the onslaught of recent hardships around the world, but that insists on the need to ‘take heart’ and share in hope and resilience”. It’s a message everyone should be able to get behind considering the world we’re living in, and we can single handedly thank The Marsh Family for revitalizing this lost classic.

Putting the message of it all aside for just a moment though, each member of this collective really gets their chance to shine. At right around four and a half minutes in length, there’s an unprecedented amount of euphoric harmonies, a lovely diversity through the instrumentation, and somehow it feels like winter time when listening. Though The Marsh Family is famous for its viral music videos and parodies, of which you should check out, the seriousness that this song provides is a welcomed change of pace. Without a doubt, we’ll be listening to this on constant repeat over the course of the next month.
