The Glass Pavilion shares atmospheric debut, "When The Blazing Sun Is Gone"

Impressing with a debut album called When The Blazing Sun Is Gone, The Glass Pavilion has created something truly awe-inducing in this initial effort. Please read on for our glowing review of the record, as well as a background on the project.

Led by English multi-instrumentalist Ashley Owens, The Glass Pavilion is a solo project that first began in lieu of medical issues for the artist, which led him to begin working electronically. Ultimately this first effort titled When The Blazing Sun Is Gone is equal parts uplifting, instrumentally vibrant, and supremely original. We loved every moment of it from start to finish and can’t wait for everyone to hit that play button.

With just a MIDI and a laptop, it’s honestly difficult to believe that these atmospheric soundscapes have come to life. Almost encompassing a sound similar to post-rock and shoegaze at moments, it’s still very much an eclectically sounding electronic record that grabs the listener’s focus and doesn’t let go until the final moments. On instrumental records like this specifically, we always find it’s a little bit more difficult to keep us enthralled, however every twist and turn this album provides was worthy of enjoyment.

Coming in at 7 total tracks, with two bonus tracks exclusively on The Glass Pavilion’s Bandcamp page, this instantly became one of those albums that are best listened to uninterrupted from start to finish. Songs like “Sign & Wonders” and “Open To The Sky” could 100% be pulled off to playlists on their own merit, as well as others, but the real magic came in the full album experience. Delicately crafting so many individual highs on moments of these songs, we couldn’t help but feel inspired and uplifted at the end of our first listen. Without a doubt, we already know we’ll be coming back for more soon enough.

Like many instrumental records in the same vein as this, The Glass Pavilion has undoubtedly stood up to some of the greats. We feel the need to make the comparison to one of our favorites, Explosions In The Sky, but mainly because it encapsulated that same feeling of drama and captivation that their music does. Without giving too much else away, do yourselves a massive favor and check out this album as soon as you can!
