The Badly Behaved shares details on Lauer-remixed single, "Runaway" - Interview

Fresh off the release of a fantastic remix of his single “Runaway” from Lauer, we got the opportunity to sit and speak with Richard von Kalmar of The Badly Behaved. Please check out our full interview below.

Currently representing the music scene in Berlin, The Badly Behaved is a synth-based band led from Richard von Kalmar. Combining a wide variety of musical elements and decade-spanning sounds and styles into his music, “Runaway” off of his record Who Am I has just received the remix treatment from Lauer. Infusing so much diversity and passion into the new mix, we got the chance to talk all about it with Richard who gave us all the necessary specifics and insights into how it was made. We highly recommend you check out our discussion as soon as you can.

So the story goes on how Richard and Philipp Lauer initially met digitally for the first time. Richard says, “he had long been a fan of Philipp Lauer’s, as one of Germany’s best DJ producers, and an enthusiast of his music”. As both are also big fans of the 80s producer Bobby Orlando, a key figure in the inspiration for the remix, they ultimately collaborated on creating this mix and the rest was history. A sincere recommendation for all, and one we discussed, would be to please listen to the original first and then the remix to get a true feel for how the song was changed.

As for the background of the actual song, it’s about someone “who has been living in a new city for a few years, which was exciting to start with but that, after a while of the same routine, they find it increasingly lacking in energy and uninspiring. They no longer like it there and feel a strong urge to leave the city. Hence, the chorus line “Run away, get away, leave today“.

While of course we’d rather not spoil our conversation or the song because we’d prefer you listen and watch for yourselves, one thing we do need to say is how much of a total pleasure it was to speak with Richard. He’s got so much experience and wisdom yet it comes through in his work flawlessly. We reviewed Who Am I earlier this year, so you can only imagine our excitement to see one of our favorite tracks was remixed, but the end result beat all of our expectations. For now while we wait for more, we’ve included all the important links below to listen, follow along, and to stay up to date for more.
