The Badly Behaved returns to talk new single, "Govinda Jaya Jaya" - Interview

Making his way back for another tell all interview, The Badly Behaved’s Richard von Kalmar stopped in to chat all about “Govinda Jaya Jaya”. Please watch our full interview with the artist below.

With two versions of “Govinda Jaya Jaya” just being released, a radio edit and extended, The Badly Behaved are tailoring their sound and going all in on the experimental. Thankfully for us, the band’s Richard von Kalmar stopped in for a second time to give us all the major details regarding the song’s origins, all who were involved, and even a small look into what listeners can expect in the future. If you missed our last interview, definitely don’t miss this one!

Releasing officially on October 16th, we’ve obviously had the opportunity to listen to all versions multiple times, and we can confidently claim now that these are straight up winners. According to Richard, “the song is based on a Hindu chant, often sung in the Krishna Consciousness movement. It has a tempo of 106 BPM and a strong Balearic feel”. It’ll become apparent quickly, but this is a departure from the “standard” sound we’ve heard from The Badly Behaved in the past, however it’s a welcome one. Not only is it opening up others to cultures, but the chanting works so well within the rest of the production and tone of the song.

With such vast influences in Richard’s repertoire, with artists like New Order or Pet Shop Boys coming to mind, he’s taken that now classic sound and molded it to something that works in the present day. Of course we’re recommending all to give “Govinda Jaya Jaya” a spin as soon as it drops, but the growing discography from The Badly Behaved is becoming increasingly more impressive as time goes on. If you had the chance to listen to his past single “Runaway”, just know that it’s going to be different, but a welcome pivot in style!
