Johnnie Mikel gives his insight on new single, "I Hope It Hurts" - Interview

Fresh off the release of his latest single “I Hope It Hurts”, we got the special opportunity to sit and catch up with Johnnie Mikel! Do yourselves a favor and watch our full interview below.

Currently based in Kentucky, Johnnie Mikel has made a valiant return back into the music scene, and this time was a sensational new single called “I Hope It Hurts”. While the song is certainly quite descriptive through its imaginative lyricism, Johnnie was nice enough to reflect and give us his personal point of view into its origins. Additionally, we covered topics such as production, what else is on the way, and so much more. You’re not going to want to miss this great conversation.

What Johnnie would describe to us as alternative pop, we also felt held a lot of other stylistic inspirations through its sound and delivery. An outside team helped to put the finishing touches on “I Hope It Hurts”, but ultimately this is the artist’s vision coming to life. We spoke extensively about not wanting to pigeon hole oneself into making one type of music, but in fact with the world we live in, everything feels like it’s pulling from something else in the best way possible. Considering Johnnie’s vast love for music completely, it’s no surprise that his catalog is always taking twists and turns, keeping us on our toes for what might be coming next.

With that being said, we didn’t get too into it, but listeners can expect a ton more headed our way in hopefully the very near future. Experimentation is expected, but to what extent, we’ll just have to find out. What we will say about this song is that it holds that signature essence of heart and soul, something that can’t really be replicated at the end of day. In Johnnie’s vocals, the song’s composition, and all other factors, he’s got a real winner on his hands that we sincerely cannot wait for everyone out there to get into.
