Sylvia Mund shares her diverse and multicultural new EP

Review by Austin Sher

Sylvia Mund has released her diverse and multicultural new EP, and although we only speak English, we absolutely love what we heard! Please read along as we give an in-depth review into the music, as well as a bit of background on the artist as well.

Sylvia Mund, a singer and voice over artist, is currently living in Paris, France but has a foothold in Latin America as well. According to Sylvia, “Being part of many different musical projects with many different styles (rock, blues, jazz, chanson, etc.) I'm now putting together all these different styles and influences - with a dominance in jazz, cabaret and latin part.

I’m a traveller and a curious mind, loving to mix up Latin music with my European influences (lyrics in German, French and Spanish and some English). One part of the project are old German cabaret songs that we now perform with a Latin colour and Latin rhythms, but we have French and Latin American songs too, all interpreted in our own original way. Some are cover songs and some are my creations.”

Now that you’ve got a bit of background on Sylvia Mund, it has become quite clear that she has been influenced by the world as a whole. We feel it is so rare nowadays that you have an artist with such multicultural feelings and views of the world, yet it expertly comes off as flawless within the record. One thing I would like to point out though is it is not just Sylvia featured on the EP, in fact, the musicians playing with her come from France, Cuba, Spain, Italy and Russia. Everybody brings in something of culture and influences and one of their aims were to cross the borders with our music. If you’re currently listening, you can obviously tell there are so many country influences featured that it’s almost difficult to keep track.

Now that we’ve provided all the background you need on the artist, it’s time to dig into the music! We absolutely loved what we heard, it is an extremely diverse and fresh sounding record. The immense amount of instrumentation featured on the album is so pleasing to the ears. Sylvia’s voice shines beautifully on every single track, along with the others, they really come together to create perfect harmonies and melodies. There is truly so much musicianship featured that I had to listen to it in full a few separate times to really get a feel for it all.

The additions of subtle guitar picking, violins, and refined drumming really brought it all together for me. I also really enjoyed that the spotlight is equally shared when it comes to the vocals. While it is not just Sylvia Mund singing, it really does give everyone a chance to feature themselves.

Overall, we really loved what we heard so much on this record. It was such a lovely sounding piece of music that we really think if you’re reading this, you need to stop what you’re doing and check it out!
