Sydney Lauren gets personal on upbeat single, "Maybe"

Continuing on in her string of catchy singles, Sydney Lauren is back at it with the fresh release of “Maybe”. Read on for our full and complete review of the track, as well as a background on the artist.

Putting her own spin on an indie pop sound, singer and songwriter Sydney Lauren’s latest output “Maybe” is her own personal perspective on messy and uncomfortable breakups. Relatable to say the least, but different in every situation, she’s put together an upbeat and vibrant song that delicately paints a picture of the struggle, but in a beautiful and eye opening way. Before we fully get into, just know that are we definitely recommending you give a listen!

What started out as a partnership with producer Jake Ohlbaum, quickly turned into multiple Zoom sessions to get this thing recorded remotely. Considering Jake worked on Sydney’s EP Dreamt of an Ex, the rapport had already been established. Finding a producer that fully gets you and can get the best version of the music you’re trying to make is an astonishingly difficult task, but the music they’ve made together so far has shown to be all worth it.

Breaking down the lyrics a bit, Sydney writes, “maybe is reserved for things that don’t hurt, like should you chop off your hair or throw out clothes you don’t wear,” asserting that love has to warrant more than just a “maybe.” Line after line are these witty yet personal lines that detail the reasons why relationships like this never work. Having listened through multiple times at this point, you almost get caught up in the “happy” feeling that the song gives off, but after listening closely to the lyrics, the whole perspective changes. For us, we love the juxtaposition of songs like these, they tend to show off the songwriting skills that not every musician possesses. In this case though, Sydney Lauren has proved she can basically cover any complex topic and make it sound great in the end.

We would definitely classify this song as perfect summertime listening given the vibe that exudes from it, but realistically speaking, we’ll be listening to it year round along with everything else that Sydney puts out in the coming months. Now’s about the time we’ll remind you again to check out “Maybe” as soon as you can!
