SUPER FREDDY shines on latest EP, "MERCURIAL"
Back and better than ever, consider us beyond impressed with the latest EP titled MERCURIAL coming from none other than SUPER FREDDY. Please read along with us as we break down our complete thoughts on the record, as well as an insight into the artist behind the music.
Currently based out of Montreal, SUPER FREDDY is the project of the incredibly talented Freddy Detchou. Seamlessly incorporating an endless amount of influenced genre such as Hip Hop, Soul, House, and so many more, this musician is telling compelling stories that convey a whole lot of his personality and ideas within.
Released on June 4th, 2021, this 3 song EP is an absolute blast from start to finish. At just about 7 minutes in total run time, it’s a quick listen that will undoubtedly have you going back for more as soon as you’re all done with it. On the origins of the record though, SUPER FREDDY let us know that it’s the “exploration of the themes of physical distance, diaspora and third culture experience, disconnection from one’s roots and family, as well as feelings of loss and change, presented through an Afrofuturist lens. It was created in collaboration with KOSI, a Toronto-based Zimbabwean producer.”
With so much music to his name in a short period of time, we’ve fallen in love with MERCURIAL so quickly, that we feel the overwhelming need to go back and start from the beginning. As lovers of diverse sounding and world music influences, it’s EP’s like this that restore our faith in the genre as a whole. Truly, in just 7 full minutes, the artist has crafted something so original and fresh that is sounding like nothing we’ve heard in a while. This is a true piece of original and thoughtful artwork.
While each song is certainly separate in sound from the last, the EP as a whole flows together wonderfully, which is why we’ve got to recommend a full listen. Sure, each individual track could be listened to separately in a playlist format, but to really get the full effect, hit play at the beginning and let it run through! We sincerely hope you enjoy this one.
