Spener over delivers on highly anticipated debut album, "Equanimity"
Three years of hard work and focus and finally the debut album Equanimity from Spener has made its arrival. The wait was worth it! Please keep reading as we break down the intricacies of the record, in addition to a background on the artist.
Originally from the North of England, but now representing the Barcelona music scene, Spener is the definition of dedication and drive when it comes to crafting inspiring music. On his debut record Equanimity, the artist has so delicately blended together a multitude of genres that span Hip Hop, Indie Rock, Soul, Jazz, and beyond. It’s a journey and adventure that we recommend you dig into and an artist that we’re already patiently awaiting more from.
Coming in at 13 total tracks, spanning right around 50 minutes or so in runtime, Spener has left it all out on the table in terms of imagination, exploration, and influence. As a singer, songwriter, rapper, and producer, this musician has leaned heavily into imagery-filled lyricism that paints a picture of his personal experiences. While there’s obviously isolated stories being depicted, it overwhelmingly covers his journey of “introspection and social narrative”, but in a beautiful way that urges the listener to become immersed in the overall sound. Listening to lyrics is one thing, but we can also virtually guarantee you’ll be more than enthused with the wide variety of instrumentation and daring moments involved.
While it was certainly a wonderful listen from beginning to end, our major highlight has to have been the absolute cohesiveness that it holds. Each song could definitely be taken and playlisted based off moods for example, but the greatness of it all comes through in clicking the play button at the start and taking it all in. Spener showcases his versatility and proves so easily that he could take any one of these genres presented and make a whole record out of it. We do prefer this blend of course as it captures so many of our individual loves, but again we’d still urge to listen to it all.
With all that being said though, the three year wait was ultimately worth it! Go ahead and please check out those important links below to listen, follow along, and of course to stay tuned for much more on the way.
