Sleeptalk share their uplifting & vibrant 2nd LP, "Drown in a Rainbow"

Freshly released on June 9th, 2022, Sleeptalk have shared their second full length album titled Drown In A Rainbow that we already know will be on repeat during the summer months. Please read on for an in-depth look into the record, in addition to a background on the band.

Made up of Anthony Fitzpatrick, Justin Melchor, Jason Fitzpatrick, Paul McGill and Malik Dugan, Sleeptalk are a Los Angeles-based five piece that have put together a sublime indie pop album called Drown In A Rainbow. Following up their 2017 self-titled debut, they’ve expanded on the base they’ve built and delivered a top tier production and performance that plain and simple makes you feel great and uplifted after the initial listen. Needless to say, it’s a piece of art that we’re highly recommending everyone out there give a spin as soon as possible.

Coming in at 11 total tracks, Sleeptalk immediately immerses the listener into an atmospheric world of infinite possibilities ranging in style and sound. The opener “Dripping Colors” for example, it feels as though you’re being uplifted by a bright instrumentation and a warm vocal delivery. The band alludes to the track feeling like an acid trip, and honestly, it’s difficult to disagree with that statement if you catch our drift. In fact, the entirety of Drown In A Rainbow feels inspired and even holds certain psychedelic elements through specific passages on tracks. We’re not 100% sure if that was the vision or theme, however it was a pleasant and welcome surprise.

Recorded throughout 2021 in Joshua Tree, California, believe it or not it actually does have a desert feel to it. Through the guitars featured, especially on songs like “Close To You” and “All I Need”, the reverberation is endless and dynamic, just like the spaciousness of a desert. Although we fully had individual favorite songs that are perfect for mood-based playlists, a resounding sentiment was really how cohesive this was as well. The art of the “album experience” isn’t necessarily gone, but it’s being lost to isolated singles. Having enjoyed this nonstop from start to finish, that immersive feeling that we previously mentioned holds true. They suck you in with the greatness of the opener, but it definitely doesn’t fall off slightest as it goes on. There’s waves of energy and emotion undoubtedly, but it’s ultimately a positive and upbeat journey from beginning to end.

With all that being said, let us confidently recommend this record once more. You can find all the important links below to listen, follow along, and of course to keep up with all major news and information below. Enjoy!
