Here with a debut single that’s dripping with texture and a top tier production, let us please introduce you to Clay in Mono and his song, “Slip”. Read on for an in-depth look at the track, in addition to a much needed background on the artist.

Somewhere between electro-pop and ambient music, Clay in Mono has just shared his debut titled “Slip” that we haven’t been able to stop thinking about. Through layers upon layers of sound, style, and atmosphere, the artist has concocted a mix that packs a serious punch even though its runtime isn’t relatively long. Regardless though, it’s a wall of sound and something that we’re highly recommending everyone give a spin as soon as possible.

On the background of it all, the artist is singing about “falling out of touch, how time speeds up as we age, and finding an uneasy comfort knowing we all share that experience”. While we’re incredibly thankful he’s given us a behind the scenes look, our initial listen had us transfixed on the production of it all rather than the lyricism. His vocals certainly take a lo-fi approach and sit towards the back of the mix, but clearly there’s a message behind it all that 100% needed an explanation. As a precursor to his upcoming debut mini-album called Entry, this song has served as an ideal introduction that’s got us excited for whatever else is set to come.

Instead of this feeling like a one note song that holds no complexities, it legitimately resembles a piece of art. The more you listen or focus in, the more beauty and texture you can pull out of it. It runs at a little less than two and a half minutes, however your attention is overwhelmed by the immediacy of everything that’s thrown in your face. For us, we’d consider this to be boundary pushing music that’s definitely experimental, but approachable enough to capture a wide audience depending on your preferences. Honestly though, it’s going to be a journey to get to see what else gets shared prior to the debut album.
