Signal Valley shares incredibly diverse 5th LP, "Gardens"
On their fifth album release in just two years, Signal Valley have shown no signs whatsoever of slowing down. Gardens is their latest and it’s an absolute must listen! Read on for our full review of the record, as well as a background on the band.
Currently based out of South New Jersey, led by Daniel Juliet Spizuco, Signal Valley is an amalgamation of genres spanning from prog rock to psychedelic jams, all the way to pure acoustic. Unique in everything that’s been shared thus far, the newest record Gardens does the incredibly difficult task of spanning decades in sound, all the while keeping a modern and forward thinking aesthetic to it. We’ve sincerely enjoyed our listen and urge everyone out there to click the play button on this beauty.
The goal in mind for Signal Valley is the “pursuit of new songwriting territories”, in the hopes of gathering listeners who enjoy all sorts of genres spanning literally the spectrum of music. On Gardens, the record clocks in at just around 43 minutes spanning 13 otherworldly tracks. While each song provides its own unique twists and turns undoubtedly, there’s still a wonderful cohesion at play that lets the listener know to start from the beginning and strap in for a wild ride and album experience. However a main stand out for us was easily the way that Gardens continued to escalate in sound throughout the listen. Daniel starts you off slow and builds you to a climax that you don’t want to end.
We went into this record with no expectations as we weren’t too familiar with Signal Valley’s music, but the way that it was so instantly gripping has made us fans for life. The subtle psychedelic elements and fuzz in the instrumentation had us on the edge of our seats, not to mention Daniel’s lo-fi vocal additions that added such a complexity to the whole mix. Standout tracks for us certainly had to be “My Lexapro Isn’t Working”, “Brand New Brain”, and the closer, “You’re A Supermodel Now”. Of course we were enamored with it all, so the recommendation is to listen from start to finish, but also to take note of the collaborators on the record to potentially check out their works as well.
All in all, we can’t wait to do a deep dive on what we’ve been missing out on! In the meantime, start with Gardens and check out those important links below to listen, follow along, and stay tuned for more in the near future.
