Savonarola return with a psychedelic single & video for "Ash"

Coming in right at the end of the year with their first single release, “Ash”, Savonarola have created something dark and filled with a specific attitude. We are loving it! Read on for an in-depth review of the track, as well as a background on this band.

Nearly five years of cranking out insanely catchy and mood-filled music, Canada’s Savonarola have re-emerged once again with a special sounding single, “Ash”. With a music video accompanying it, linked below, it immediately shows off the complexities and seemingly infinite capabilities of a band that continues to move the goal posts and experiment with their already exotic sound. It’s both a band and a song that we can’t get enough of, so please give it a listen whenever you get a moment.

Coming in at an even three and a half minutes, Savonarola waste no time creating a slightly eerie atmosphere within “Ash”, which solidifies itself even more if you watch the immensely psychedelic music video below. We won’t spoil the video, but we’ll definitely continue to let you know that this song quickly perked our ears up as it closely holds the essence of what we enjoy in our personal listening. The production right out of the gate is killer, but the mixing here is what gives it an edge to other similar acts. For us, the bass stuck out as soon as the track started, but it wasn’t until the almost haunting vocals entered that we fully felt immersed into the song. Though it’s relatively short in length, and we wish it were longer, it 100% does a fantastic job of creating that slow burn that pays off ten fold by the final notes.

With help from Chris Catalano at Pandora's Box Studios to help create the music video, everything about the recent release of “Ash” is perfect. We’d encourage everyone to listen before they view, but honestly we’ve listened enough times at this point to know that you’ll continue to discover and hear new things every time you come back. Additionally, we’ve found this to be a great jumping off point to the rest of the band’s discography as there’s so many gems that are just waiting to be discovered.
