Sanchez. previews his meaningful & cohesive debut, "Burgundy"
All set for its official release on February 16th, 2022, we were lucky enough to get a full preview of Sanchez’s all new record, Burgundy. Spoiler alert, it is wonderful! Read on for our review of the album, in addition to a background on the artist.
From the mind of Oisín Magee comes his all new musical endeavor called Sanchez. Originally part of the group Easy Street Pickings, he’s found himself taking a solo path that has ultimately paid off incredibly well because the end product called Burgundy ended up being super enjoyable. Now based out of South Korea and picking up steam there, we won’t be surprised when Oisín sees global success after this release.
Coming in at 11 total tracks, our initial impression of Burgundy was just cohesive and well thought out it really was. The artist immediately sucks the listener in on the opener “Knock Them Down” with his slightly haunting yet inviting vocals and acoustic guitar. The atmosphere created in just the first 30 seconds in terms of sound and style were more than enough to hook us in for the rest of the record. While it felt like there could have been 100 highlights to mention, one of the things that stood out the most was his ability to fluctuate between highs and lows so effortlessly. You’re always left feeling like you need more, which in our eyes is one of the most difficult parts of creating art.
With the help of so many amazing musicians to lend themselves on the instrumentation, Oisín has pulled from his influences like Arctic Monkeys, Bob Dylan, and so many more. The common denominator between those inspirations feel like the songwriting always stands out, yet the vocals have this interesting way of communication as well. Instead of just plainly singing away, he invites you in to delicately make those connections within the message being displayed.
While the whole record is memorable from start to finish, some standouts for us were definitely “Bethlehem”, “Paranoid”, and “Feeling”. Specifically those because we felt in a live setting, they would probably be the most powerful and surreal to witness. Although we’re not located in Ireland, Sanchez. actually has an Irish tour planned for late March of this year. If you’re reading this and happen to be in the area, you surely won’t want to miss out on what’s virtually guaranteed to be a lovely night of music.
