On his first single release since 2020, Robin Shaw has made a swift return with an introspective look at “Today’s Generation”, which is coincidentally the name of this song. His vocals swarm in the best way possible and outline the complex life in which we’re currently living at the moment. You’ll quickly realize that his songwriting is the centerpiece of the single, however we do have to say that as a package this one feels fully complete by the end of the listen. Without a doubt though, we are overwhelmingly recommending everyone give it a listen.
Currently based in the UK, located in a village named Bressingham, Robin has always had the drive and passion for songwriting and word play. You can tell from the rest of his discography which is thankfully growing at a quicker pace these days, but he may have just put out his best work yet on the imagery-filled “Today’s Generation”. For so many out there who have experienced the madness of the last two years, songwriters everywhere are sitting back and watching the world go by, taking notes, and giving their commentary which we love.
At just a little over three minutes in run time, Robin immediately immerses the listener in his words. Now we know we’re leaning heavily into the lyricism here, and rightfully so, but we do need to point out additionally that the artist’s vocal cadence lends itself stylistically to the tone of the song. He sings in a very “matter of fact” way and the pairing instrumentation is just downtempo enough to not overshadow or overwhelm the senses. Honestly, with so much music nowadays leaning towards gimmicky production and unnecessary noises, it’s pleasant to have something straightforward like this that elegantly serves its purpose as a narrative.
