Rebecka Larsdotter surpasses all expectations on debut album, "UNdONe"
Right around a year of patiently waiting since the lead single dropped and finally the debut album from Rebecka Larsdotter has been released and surpassed all expectations. Keep reading for our review of UNdONe, as well as an update on this artist.
Closing in on 11 full months since we last reviewed one of Rebecka Larsdotter’s teaser tracks “Tonight” and there’s certainly no preparing us for the greatness that we just experienced. Dabbling in so many different genres and styles that include bits and pieces of Pop, EDM, and everything in between, her debut album UNdONe has quickly impressed us the more and more we’ve listened. Without a doubt, it’s both an artist and an album that we’re recommending everyone explore more of.
While Rebecka is definitely right at the helm and steering the ship of this record, she’s eloquently backed up by a cavalcade of talented artists. With the help of Tony Austin, Dominique Xavier Taplin, Oz Noy, and Ruslan Sirota, all collaborators have fulfilled a vision of creating something that embodies a unique “Scandinavian/Los Angeles production” that can truly only be understood with a listen. Coming in at 12 total songs that span right around 35 minutes in length, we’ve found this album to be more of an adventure than a straightforward pop record. Essentially what we mean is that although it’s cohesive and flows effortlessly from track to track, there’s seemingly endless surprises, twists, and turns that arise from beginning to end.
For example, specific tracks like the opener “Turn Your Back” compared to more downtempo ones like “rumi says” make you question if you’re even listening to the same album. Shortly after though, things immediately get back on track and you’re further immersed into the experience rather than patiently waiting for a standout to arise. Over and over that we’ve listened to UNdONe, it’s proven that Rebecka and her team are capable of legitimately any path of sound. More straightforward electronic tracks such as “LovesNoGame” fit the bill, but really the entirety of this record is one inspired journey.
With all that being said, we cannot wait for everyone to embark on this listen as soon as possible. Please click the links below to listen, follow along, and to stay tuned for whatever’s next.
