Rags and Riches return with their anthemic new single, "Summer Nights"

Review by Austin Sher

Lexington, Kentucky-based pop rock duo, Rags and Riches are back at it with their anthemic new single, “Summer Nights”. Read along with us as we give an in-depth review into what we thought of the track, as well as a bit of background information on the band.

Made up of brothers Tanner and Peyton Whitt, Rags and Riches are an American based pop rock duo who are absolutely crushing it within the genre at the moment. In February of 2019, the group released their debut single, “Speed Of Sound, which very impressively received over 750,000 streams via Spotify and over 500,000 streams through YouTube. They followed up their successes with the releases for “Arrival”, “X”, “War Cry”, “Not a Stranger”, and “Light it Up” which have all expertly showcased their genre crossing notoriety.

On the creation of “Summer Nights”, the band let us know, “This song is much needed fun and excitement in difficult times. Ultimately, we wanted to write a song that was carefree, so people could dance in their homes and cars and not feel so trapped.”. We couldn’t have possibly said it better ourselves! Straight up, the song is fun and an overall blast to listen to. In every sense of the word, it screams summer vacation and only makes us wish more that we could witness Rags and Riches live. Unfortunately, as you could have guessed, their headlining tour for 2020 has been postponed, but we’re hoping and wishing that things pick back up for 2021.

Getting into the music now though, what an absolute anthemic hit the duo have given us. From the opening cool intro beat, to the near immediate booming vocals, “Summer Nights” is an absolute hit. Like mentioned above, and in the title of the song, the track screams summer and good times. It’s way too easy to imagine yourself belting the lyrics out at a pool party or driving down the highway with the sun shining on your face. It’s pop rock at its finest and we honestly wouldn’t be surprised if the song sees mainstream radio success. In fact, we hope it’s only a matter of time until the right ears hear it.

Ultimately the song, along with the rest of their impressive discography, are begging to be seen and heard live. It’s unfortunate that plans have been changed, but there’s always the future. In the meantime, we do hope that Rags and Riches are spending their time wisely and crafting more and more of these types of the songs. They’re lighthearted and really what the world needs now more than ever. We highly suggest when you’re done reading this, you put on your best set of headphones, and get listening!
