Quiet Marauder return with a stellar new record, "Tiny Men Parts"

Review by Austin Sher

Seeing its official release to the world on November 27th, 2020, Quiet Marauder are back with yet another stellar album, Tiny Men Parts. We’re in love! Do yourselves a favor and read along with us for our full thoughts on the LP, in addition to a background on the band.

Currently based out of Cardiff, Quiet Marauder have just released this “reimagining” of their debut album, MEN, which originally came in at 111 tracks. Yes, you read that right, 111 tracks. Tiny Men Parts however is coming in at a much more manageable 9 tracks, spanning just about 25 minutes of run time. Quiet Marauder have side stepped from their known lo-fi bedroom sound into a “bombtastic” classic rock sound instead. Whatever you want to call it specifically, it’s seriously fantastic.

Recorded in Rat Trap Studios with Tom Rees (Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard), Tiny Men Parts as a whole shares the same thematic and lyrical concerns of its longer predecessor; a study in the darkness of toxic masculinity, lad banter and the insidiousness of gender inequality. From start to finish, not only is the record a lyrical masterpiece, but it’s an incredibly fun album to pop on when you don’t want to commit something double its length.

Seeing that this was our first introduction to the band, we immediately became super fans after the first track “The Business Deal” finished. This is just the type of music we needed in our lives. Overall, it’s lighthearted, but with serious lyrical undertones, and instrumentally diverse enough to keep you guessing the entire team. Considering the band is made up of 6 members, each gets a moment to shine on the listen. Whether it be the backing vocals from multiple members, the switches between acoustic and electric guitar, or the occasional horns section, it truly has it all.

Looking at the band’s prior discography can be a tad bit intimidating, just based off track length, but let us tell you that the listen to Tiny Men Parts is really the perfect introduction to Quiet Marauder. Although it’s a slight departure from their overall sound, it’s still so incredibly perfect in so many ways. There’s so much to unwrap listen after listen, we truly can’t wait to go back for more!

So what are you waiting for? This is the next record that you need to have queued up. With that being said, we’re fully endorsing, suggesting, and recommending you give it a spin.
