Pete Kilpatrick debuts his soothing new studio album, "Songs From The Green Room"

Review by Austin Sher

Back with his eighth full length studio album is Pete Kilpatrick with the release of Songs From The Green Room. What a seriously fantastic record! Read on for our full review, in addition to a bit of background on the artist as well.

Like so many artists in the past 6 months, the first thing Pete let us know is that when everything closed down in mid-March, one of the first things he did was purchase a home recording setup and he almost immediately set out to make an album from his house. He had never tracked his own vocals, guitar, or piano before, but he researched it all online and just went with it. The “can do” attitude is extremely paramount to creating music, let alone under the stresses of a global pandemic.

According to Pete, “I tried to capture the raw emotion that most of us have been feeling this year. Having two kids at home (eight and five) forced me to get creative with how to find the time to write and record the songs. I am so pleased with how they turned out. My good friend and bandmate Pete Morse and I worked on the project together by exchanging audio files through email as we weren’t comfortable enough being in the same place at the same time.

Our first impressions of the album were just how perfect of a mood setter it was. We decided to take a listen at night and couldn’t have picked a better time as it really provided soothing and calming effects. While we’d like to attribute that to the soft acoustics and drumming, it should go without saying that Pete’s voice is really the star of the show here. The album opener specifically, “Just Be”, almost sounded like a hybrid song from Mumford & Sons and Jack Johnson. As the rest of the album went on, it came into its own unique sound.

Coming in at around a 25 minute runtime, it’s absolutely worth your while. There’s so many exciting little parts that pop up across the 5 tracks, it became hard to count. Seriously though, the atmosphere that Songs From The Green Room created are close to unmatched. While the album can come off as a straightforward acoustic pop record, it’s much deeper than that. Lyrically, it’s quite impressive as well, but we’ll let you dive in for yourself.

With that being said, it’s about time you stop reading and start listening! For all things Pete Kilpatrick, to listen to the record, and keep up with all future releases, please check out the following links below.
