Perla Nalu empowers on deeply personal single, "Speak Up"

On just her second ever single, Perla Nalu is already making a name for herself with a powerful performance on “Speak Up”. Keep reading as we further break down the song, in addition to a background on this emerging artist.

Empowering and commanding from beginning to end, Perla Nalu has followed up her debut with an impactful song called “Speak Up”. Meaningful within its personal lyricism and unbelievably catchy due to its upbeat production and her dynamic vocal range, this is truly a powerhouse of a listen that’s been stuck in our heads since it first crossed our path. If for some reason this is your introduction to Perla’s music, buckle up, because you’re in for a wonderful ride.

On the background of it all, there are some seriously deep themes that are explored within “Speak Up”. According to Perla, it’s a “song of compassion for oneself in the wake of abuse” and was co-written after “following the frustration of feeling silenced after a controlling relationship”. As the title suggests, it’s ultimately opening the dialogue for those affected women to express their feelings of this difficult subject and to give a voice to the quiet. Not only do we absolutely love that she’s an advocate for this all too common cause, but that’s it a focal point of a song that we’ve so quickly come to love.

At right around three and a half minutes in runtime, “Speak Up” effortlessly hooks you in and even has a collaborator on the track who goes by Jane Doe. Directly comparing it to her debut “Twilight Sleep” which was released in 2021, it appears as though we’re experiencing a bit of a pivotal moment in where her sound might take her in the future. While both certainly have a time and place, we’re more partial to the vibrance and expansive feeling that “Speak Up” serves up. It instantly embodied the feeling of a song you’d sing at the top of your lungs with a group of friends or something that could legitimately brighten your day when played. The versatility is endless and we sincerely can’t wait to come back for more!
