Opium Ink explode on powerhouse single, "My Champagne"
Back and better than ever making a massive statement, Opium Ink have delivered a thundering single titled “My Champagne”. Do yourselves a huge favor and check out our review of this track, as well as a much needed refresher on this musical project.
As we’ve made it quite clear in the past, Opium Ink has legitimately been one of our favorite duos that we’ve had the pleasure to write about. Composed of Sarah Orloff (vocals, bass) and Wilma Kaddissi (drums), these two powerhouse performers never cease to amaze us in the sounds and styles they can conjure and accomplish. Their latest called “My Champagne” is the ideal evolution of where we thought their next song would go, and we’re loving it.
Now while they’re always striving for the best and excelling in their artistry, a couple particulars stood out while listening to “My Champagne” over and over. The drums on this track are absolutely explosive in every way possible. While the background instrumentals are swirling and creating the atmosphere of it all, truly the drum sequences overtook our senses. A recommendation here would be to listen to this song loud and proud on the biggest speakers you’ve got.
Another main standout were the vocals of course, but the production effects used overall. Particularly the use of what we think might be a vocoder and a sort of lo-fi approach to some of the more intimate moments on the track. We think this evolution of Opium Ink’s sound is super exciting and possibly even telling of where future singles might lead. With all that being said though, the work of Sarah and Wilma never fails to disappoint; they’ve got themselves a serious winner and a perfect addition to their growing discography.
If for some reason this band has not been on your radar, well, now’s the perfect time for a full exploration of their music. It’s all delightful, but “My Champagne” is definitely something special. Go ahead and check out all those links below so you can get listening, following, and to stay up to date with the rest of their 2022.
