Nolen & Friends radiate good vibes on album, "Live from Vaccine Summer"
All vaxxed up and bringing their debut album into a live setting, Nolen & Friends have delivered a wonderful new record, Live From Vaccine Summer. Do yourselves a favor and keep reading for our full review, as well as a background on the band.
Currently based out of Denver, Colorado, Nolen & Friends are led by singer and songwriter Nolen Ramminger. Bringing a new life by playing songs from their debut album Whiny Millennial Blues comes a reawakening and reimagining of those songs in a live setting on Live from Vaccine Summer. Sporting a fairly relaxed vibe throughout the listen, we are highly recommending a listen as soon as you can.
Played and recorded partially at The Mercury Cafe and The Broadway Roxy, the album comes in at a whopping 17 tracks, spanning just about an hour in run time. Honestly though, this was the perfect album for us to throw on and lose ourselves in. Getting to hear complex and personal stories that came through in the lyricism, all the while being backed up by an impeccably talented band, was a serious treat. Listening back to back with the recorded version and live version, it would truly be a difficult task to pick a “favorite” as they both exuded different but positive vibes.
Nailing down a genre on the album would be a tough one as well as it was a bit all over the place, Featuring glimmers of modern rock, sprinkles of reggae at times, and a bit of alternative, it was a super enjoyable melting pot of sound that flowed seamlessly. The standout though by far had to have been Nolen’s vocals and overall delivery. The way that he switched back and forth between singing and storytelling provided just enough variety to keep our interest piqued throughout the listen.
It would also be a tough one to pick out a single to recommend starting with, mainly because we felt that it had a certain cohesive feeling from start to finish. You enter with the unknown of what you’re going to expect, but come out of the other side feeling enlightened, almost as if you were there experiencing it with them at the same time. Not to give away too much else, but really, we do suggest you hop into the record and experience everything that Nolen & Friends are willing to give. Enjoy!
