No Thee No Ess shape shift sounds on eclectic EP, "Dimmer Switch"
On their latest album, No Thee No Ess have put out an extraordinary piece of music titled Dimmer Switch. We’re loving it! Please read on for our full in-depth review of the record, in addition to a background on these talented musicians.
Currently based out of Cardiff, No Thee No Ess are creating an eclectic blend of psychedelic and alternative sounding rock music. Their latest, out via Surk Recordings, is called Dimmer Switch and has instantly resonated with us on all fronts. Combining sultry vocals and an atmospheric essence to it, we sincerely can’t wait for everyone to get their ears on this full length album as soon as possible.
Following up the first teaser “Chorus”, the project of No Thee No Ess is a collaboration between Paul Battenbough (The Cosmic Array, King of Despair) and Andy Fung (Derrero, Cymbient). After bonding over their mutual love of The Beach Boys, Neil Young, and West Coast psychedelia, it was only right they made some of their own music and we can confidently state right now that the entirety of Dimmer Switch is a journey you’re going to want to find yourself on. An experience like no other, their take on an overcrowded genre is something that is easily differentiating them from the rest of the pack.
In a time where so much music is centered around singles, we can’t help but state that this is a cohesive album listening experience, rather than one you’d want to jump all over the place with. Dimmer Switch provides a context from start to finish and is really best listened to from the beginning. While there were certainly specific songs that stuck out to us, the entirety of the record is what made us feel whole towards the end. As lovers of the genre just like this duo, you can feel the influences come through, but they’ve still managed to create something original and break new ground.
Typically for genres like this that we’re overly familiar with, we tend to “judge” a little bit harder, but really No Thee No Ess have hit a home run with everything surrounding this release. We’ve made it easier than ever to get listening and follow along because you can find all the important links below. Enjoy!
