Milk Jennings breaks down his debut album, "Sleep Talker" - Interview

Fresh off the release of his spectacular debut album titled Sleep Talker, we got the opportunity to bring in Milk Jennings for a full discussion surrounding the record. Please check out our full interview with the artist below.

Currently based out of Seattle, Washington, Milk Jennings has undoubtedly put together one of our favorite releases of the year so far. It’s an eclectic mix of genres that range from psych to pop and beyond, but ultimately crafted together for the masses to listen to and enjoy. Its title is Sleep Talker, and our conversation with Milk broke down all of the most important parts of it including its meaning, recording process, production, and a ton more topics that we can’t wait for everyone to hear.

Coming in at 9 total tracks, spanning right around 34 minutes in length, the record was produced and mixed by Sam Cohen (Kevin Morby, Cass McComb), and was just released on June 3rd, 2022. Having moved somewhat recently from New York City and now residing in the Pacific Northwest, that’s really when he began writing the solo material that would end up becoming Sleep Talker. We touched heavily on its inspirations ranging from The Beatles to Andy Shauf and more, but so much of what we’ve loved about our multiple listens is Milk’s ability to have broken away from those inspirations and created something that holds a signature feel to it.

While there are definitely specific songs like “Late Night” or “Head Talk” that stand out and could be considered the singles, there’s no doubt that it’s an extremely cohesive listen. The track listing and vision was 100% achieved, but mainly in the sense that it flows flawlessly and delivers peaks and valleys of musical euphoria. Our recommendation here would be to hit that play button on the opener and get fully immersed into the experience until the final notes. The immense amount of passion and love displayed are unreal, but it’s a truly original work that we’ll be coming back to in the future. The more we listen, the more bits and pieces show themselves, and while Sleep Talker feels like a dense record, it pays off so much the more you listen.

With all that being said, let us not spoil anymore of the highlights. Please go ahead and check out those important links below in order to listen, follow along, and of course to keep up with all the latest news surrounding this fantastic musician.
