Mikayla Mulcahy creates her own world on astounding new EP, "Burial Ground of Kings"

Review by Austin Sher

Officially releasing this Friday, October 23rd, we got the incredible opportunity to review Mikayla Mulcahy’s upcoming EP, Burial Ground of Kings. Spoiler alert, we loved it! Read along for our full thoughts on the record.

Coming directly from the outskirts of Washington DC, the siren songstress of Alternative Rock, Mikayla Mulcahy, is quickly making a name for herself with her unique fusion of blues and symphonic gothic rock. Being a single mother of two, her primary goal is to keep her family as her main priority, while making a name for herself in the new music industry. We can confidently say that with the impending release of the EP, the alt rock world should be very excited for what’s about to come.

One of the most difficult parts of reviewing unreleased works is that we don’t want to give too much away, but in this case, it’s honestly going to be a little difficult to contain our excitement about how unique of a listen this was. As alternative rock lovers ourselves, it’s so refreshing to hear pieces of art like this that break the mold of what a “normal” album should be or sound like. To be honest, the genre of symphonic goth rock is something we’re not completely familiar with, but is now something we’re embracing and actively seeking.

Looking towards the music, the production quality on Burial Ground of Kings was truly something else. In addition to Mikayla’s stellar vocal performance, she’s created a world through soundscapes and atmospheres that are absolutely unique and original. We’ll leave it up to the listener to choose which song was your favorite, because for us it would take a lot of deliberation to make that call.

While this was our first introduction to the music of Mikayla Mulcahy, it certainly won’t be our last. She’s introduced us to a new genre of music that we can’t wait to discover, explore, and go down the rabbit hole to see what else we like. So with this all being said, we’re highly recommending and suggesting you keep an eye out for the release, this Friday!
