Mason McNulty breaks down his acting & singing in Q&A

Acting, singing, and beyond, Mason McNulty has already proved he’s a jack of all trades who can do a little bit of everything. We had the opportunity to sit with Mason and learn a whole lot about his life during our full Q&A with the multi-talented artist. Learn about him below!

WWAM: You've had recurring roles on "Schooled" and "Days of Our Lives." How did these experiences shape your acting career, and what did you enjoy most about working on these shows?

Mason McNulty: These shows helped shape my career by giving me confidence. I love having to be on set more regularly. Working with the same people. Seeing a more steady look at what I actually have more time to create in a character.

WWAM: What was it like playing the lead in films such as "Danger Force" and "Gacy: Serial Killer Next Door"? How did you prepare for these roles, and what were the challenges?

Mason McNulty: Playing the lead is amazing. The whole film rides on you. Getting to put a creative thought into a character and then seeing it on the big screen is completely awesome.

WWAM: You have a recurring role in the drama "Class of 1970" and are co-producing "Love XO." How has your experience been working behind the scenes as a co-producer, and what insights have you gained?

Mason McNulty: I have learned so much working behind the scenes as a co-producer. I do believe that working as an actor and then working behind the scenes helps me understand the points of the actors a lot more.

WWAM:. You're adding singer to your resume with the release of your debut single "Lessons of Love." What inspired you to pursue music, and can you tell us about the creative process behind this single?

Mason McNulty: I have been into music since I was really young. I have been taking vocal lessons since I was about 6 years old. Then I started in musical theater and fell in love with it there. But I didn't start making my own original until I went through my own heart aches and break ups with some of my past girlfriends. I took to writing down my thoughts so that I could heal my heart. I then took those thoughts and went to my co-writer Agina and we created my first original.

WWAM: You’re currently working on new music and planning live performances in LA. What can fans expect from your upcoming music, and how do you prepare for live shows?

Mason McNulty: I have no current plans for any live performances just yet. I would like to have more original songs before I commit to live performances. I can tell you that I am going to be going back into the studio very soon to start writing my next song. I am very excited about that.

WWAM: Outside of your professional work, you enjoy volunteering to help those less fortunate. What causes are you passionate about, and how do you give back to your community?

Mason McNulty: I am very passionate about helping others. One of the biggest things that I like to advocate for is Teen Suicide. Making people aware of the signs just so that they can help others. I am also a big advocate for the Cancer Society. With many of my family members having had or are going through cancer, I want to bring more to help them and others so we can fight this ugly disease.

WWAM: With a successful career in both acting and music, what are some of your goals for the future? Are there any upcoming projects or collaborations that you’re particularly excited about?

Mason McNulty: My goal is to really just live my best life. And that is what I would tell others around me. Because if you are not loving what you are doing then change it. Life is way too short to be doing a job or things that do not make you happy.

As I said I will be going back into the studio very soon to start the next song, but I also have a movie that will be coming out at the end of the year or early next year called "Mi Loca Quinceanera". You will love it. It is a hysterical edge of your seat laugh type of movie. I am excited for you all to see it.

WWAM: How do you manage to stay motivated and inspired in both your acting and music careers?

Mason McNulty: I manage to stay motivated with the help of my parents, my sister, my nephews and friends. They are always positive and even when I am feeling down, they know how to manage to cheer me up and keep me going.
