Kacey Fifield answers our in-depth questions during full Q&A

In the midst of so many different projects, we got the opportunity for an in-depth Q&A with the very own Kacey Fifield! To learn a lot more about an artist on the rise, check out our questions and her answers with the artist below.

WWAM: Tell us about your newest single "Dream Girl.” How is this song different from the others you have recorded in the past?

Kacey Fifield: The song was inspired by an idea I had back in August of last year about a "dream girl" who seems perfect on the surface but is actually driving herself crazy just to fit that mold. In the studio with my cowriters Sam Beresford and Michael Kamerman, as soon as we started coming up with the chorus chord progression, the lyrics "so unwell, I get possessive and I lose myself" came to me with the melody. Building on that melody idea and thinking back to the concept I came up with in August, we shaped the rest of the song to show the contrast between being a supposedly picture-perfect dream girl and the consequences of changing yourself to fit that beauty standard. I always love a super fun, upbeat pop song with a deeper meaning hidden behind the earworm melody. “Dream Girl” is definitely the quirkiest song I’ve released production-wise, from the gritty synths to the fun “talking section” we included toward the end.

WWAM: As a singer/songwriter, you’ve written and released over two dozen original songs. What inspires your songwriting?

Kacey Fifield: I'm super inspired by my life and everyone around me, so it really depends on the song! For example, "Self Sabotage" is inspired by the situation between one of my best friends and her ex while "Left Behind" is about the anxiety I felt during my senior year of high school. The new release "Dream Girl" is definitely inspired by my own experiences, but also influenced by observations I've made about people trying to change themselves to get their crush to like them or to fit the ever-changing beauty standard.

WWAM: How do you feel you have grown as an artist? Is there any type of music you would like to explore but haven't yet?

Kacey Fifield: I’ve been making music since I was 10 so, naturally, my songwriting as grown up with me. I feel like I’m finally figuring out who I am as an artist and what I want my sound to be. I’m definitely feeling a lot more 80s and 90s influences in the songs I’m creating now, so I’d definitely love to continue exploring those kinds of music.

WWAM: Outside of your professional work, what hobbies or interests do you enjoy pursuing in your free time?

Kacey Fifield: I love spending time with my family, friends, and 4 rescue cats! I also enjoy going to the gym, running, reading books, taking dance classes, trying new recipes, going rock climbing, and putting on my "film critic" hat to review the newest movies on my Letterboxd.

WWAM: With a successful career in both acting and music, what are some of your goals for the future? Are there any upcoming projects or collaborations that you’re particularly excited about and can share with us?

Kacey Fifield: I’m always making music, so there are definitely projects in the works! I can’t make any promises about a release date just yet, but I’m working on some music that feels like the best I’ve ever made so I can’t wait to share more with the world. One of my big goals is to go on a tour, either supporting a larger artist as an opening act or headlining my own shows down the line. For now, fans in Los Angeles can come see me live at The Mint LA on August 14th!

WWAM: Your recent EP Nostalgia Haunts Me received rave reviews. What themes and stories do these songs explore, and what can fans expect from music in your future?

Kacey Fifield: I’m the definition of a nostalgic person! I’m always looking through my photos from prior years, re-reading text conversations and thinking back on old memories. These songs explore a lot of the feelings I experienced my senior year of high school, from the fear of being “left behind” by my peers to cutting out toxic people, like those I talk about in “Blameless” all the way to coming to terms with my emotions in “Numb Pill.” Now that I’ve finished my first year of college, expect my songs to address new themes and emotions that arose from this transitional period of my life!

WWAM: What advice would you give to young aspiring actors and musicians who look up to you and want to follow in your footsteps?

Kacey Fifield: As cliche as it may seem, the best advice is truly to not give up. There is so much rejection on the path to success so it’s extremely hard to keep going if you don’t truly love what you’re doing. Stay true to yourself and accept feedback with a grain of salt. Listening to others’ opinions is important of course but, at the end of the day, your art is exactly that: YOUR art. Decentralizing the end result and focusing on the journey is something I’m still working on every day, but it’s such a crucial aspect of being an artist!
