Lauren Minear analyzes her second single, "Last Generation" - Interview
Fresh off the release of her second overall single titled “Last Generation”, we got the wonderful opportunity to sit and speak with the artist behind the music, Lauren Minear. Please check out our full interview below.
Raised in Nashville but now based out of New York, Lauren Minear has just shared a seriously heartfelt and meaningful new song called “Last Generation”. Co-written by Lauren and Cristal Barrera, with help on the production from The Online Recording Studio, the final result of this song has turned into this atmospheric and slightly minimalistic listen, with a real emphasis on the lyricism. We got into it with Lauren on the background of the song and sincerely can’t wait for everyone to enjoy our discussion.
On the background of it all, Lauren stated, “I wrote this song on a day when the sky in New York State turned red from the wildfires in California. It was at the height of COVID and during a time of political and civil unrest in the US. It felt like the world was ending, and I felt physically anxious about what kind of future my kids would have. I wanted to embody that feeling in a song”. We got down to the nitty gritty, so to speak, on what this song truly means to her, but in ways this was certainly one of the more serious conversations we’ve had with an artist. Honestly though, it perfectly encapsulated the type of person that Lauren is and her good intentions in making music as a whole.
The song itself has dark and moody undertones to it and really does capture a moment in time that so many of us were feeling towards the beginning of the pandemic. Whether you have kids or not, it’s relatable in the sense that you can sympathize with those who were going through it. As mentioned, the backing track of the song is stylistically subdued, but it makes the lyrics and Lauren’s serene voice rise to the occasion. It gives it a complexity and shifts the listener’s focus to the words and urges them to make a connection through the many messages.
