Kipani deliver an exceptional debut EP, "Lotus"
Back at it again with their debut EP the band has called Lotus, let us introduce you to the musical greatness known as Kipani. We’re loving this record! Please read on for a full review, as well as a background on this emerging band.
Currently based out of New York, Kipani are an indie pop trio made up of Mike McManamon, Sean Sherwood, and Tiffany Jhingoor. Together they’ve masterfully crafted an EP titled Lotus that’s surpassed our wildest expectations and already been on constant repeat since it got sent our way. Filled to the brim with inventive instrumentation, three part harmonies, and beyond, we sincerely can’t wait for everyone out there to give this a listen.
Coming in at 6 total tracks and spanning right around 21 minutes, Kipani wasted zero time whatsoever immediately immersing the listener into their unique blend of sound and style. Kicking things off with the opener “End Of The Line”, that certain edge that they’ve brought to the table is the first thing any listener should notice. Describing their sound as “diary pop”, it’s something we otherwise weren’t familiar with previously, however it’s really all come to make sense after realizing so much of Lotus is lyric driven as well. Part of the immersion here is getting to hear stories and expert songwriting from individuals you were previously unaware of. There’s a vulnerability within these songs, especially on “Up For Anything” and “Freaking Out”, but realistically each track has its own set of pros.
For a band that’s been quite prolific in their releases over the past two years, but is really just now finding a groove that works for the future, we’re beyond excited to be able to follow them into the future. From start to finish, Lotus is an absolute delight and amalgamation of genre, so we’ll be even more intrigued to see how they follow it up in due time. In the meantime though for all the uninitiated, we’ve included the most important links below in order to get listening, follow along, and of course stay tuned for all the latest Kipani news. Enjoy!
