Kevin Johnson & Nick Bowen collaborate on conceptual thriller, "Sinner"
Collaborating on yet another wonderful album with a unique concept, Kevin Johnson & Nick Bowen are back with Sinner. Please keep reading for our full review of the record, as well as a background on this talented duo.
Having been playing music for over five years now, the music duo of Kevin Johnson & Nick Bowen can seemingly do no wrong. On this latest record, Sinner, the two have conceptualized an idea that is based on each song covering the 7 deadly sins. As instrumentally sound as the record is from start to finish, we highly recommend giving a closer listen lyrically to really make the connections. Sincerely, we can’t wait for you all to check out this record!
Now while the majority of the record feels like it could be classified with 70’s rock elements, they’ve also added a whole lot of modern to it. In the first third of the record, we got strong Led Zeppelin vibes from the band, especially on the vocals front. The raspiness came through perfectly and the drums stood out in the best way possible. The openers, “Sinner” and “Pride” were a great track listing choice to get sucked in immediately.
It wasn’t too long ago that we reviewed Nick Bowen’s record Silvertone Retapped, and we definitely took that into account when reviewing this record. Considering it’s a collaboration, there’s obviously two minds that contributed to the mix. The yin and yang of Kevin Johnson and Nick Bowen have surely succeeded in bringing a unique and innovative sound to a genre that needs it the most. Conceptually speaking, we’re suckers for a cohesive record that actually aims to communicate a message rather than floundering all over the place.
Without giving too much else away, just know that what you’re about to enter is a fully fleshed out and fun sounding record that we’re excited for music lovers across the spectrum to listen to. As this is their fourth album, we hope it’s not the last, which is why we’ll definitely be keeping a close eye on further outputs.
