Kate Ellis shines bright on dynamic 2nd LP, "Spirals"

Long awaited, but finally arrived, Kate Ellis’ sophomore record Spirals is here and we’re completely taken aback by its beauty. Please read on for a closer look into the record, as well as a refresher on the artist.

For those somehow out of the loop on Kate Ellis, today’s your lucky day, because she’s just let loose something extremely special in Spirals. On the background of the record, it’s all about “getting lost in the maze of obstacles and pain we encounter in life – how we go around in circles inside our head, or try to get back things we can’t, or solve a pain there’s no solution to”. Lyrically profound and even more sonically vibrant, we’re urging everyone out there to get into this as soon as humanly possible.

Coming in at 10 total tracks, spanning right around 35 minutes in length, Kate leaves nothing to the imagination in crafting these imagery-filled passages of sound. Kicking things right off with her strong opener “Can’t Not”, it almost feels as if the album doesn’t climax until the end. There’s a rising feeling of emotion and passion that comes out, but it doesn’t really stop until the final notes. It wasn’t too long ago that we reviewed the lead single “Scars”, and we thought it couldn’t possibly get better, but it did!

So much of what we enjoyed about this record, even taking away the stellar instrumentation, was just the certain pureness that it holds. It’s not something you can put in after production rather an organic feeling that just oozes out from the beginning. It could be a testament to the special feeling that Kate’s music holds, but it’s really been such a great time getting to review her music thus far. Spirals completely avoids the coveted “sophomore slump” and has emerged as maybe her best record yet. For the uninitiated, you’ll have to listen to her debut Carve Me Out to make that full distinction.

With all that being said though, please don’t waste another moment not listening to Kate Ellis’ music. Additionally we’ve provided the most important links below where you can listen, follow along, and stay tuned for everything else she’s got on the way.
