Justina Shandler delivers the perfect pop track, "Stamina"
Carving out her own pop niche and excelling at the same time, Justina Shandler’s newest single “Stamina” was nothing short of outstanding. Do yourselves a big favor and read on for our full look at the track, as well as a background on the artist.
Taking inspiration from some of the current greats like Lianne La Havas, Phoebe Bridgers, and more, Justina Shandler is still managing to create something entirely specific to her. Imparting her own signature style into every moment of “Stamina”, she’s effortlessly blending and borderline the line of a song that features both impressive songwriting and the quality to keep us coming back for more. As Justina is the front woman of the project, she’s also got help from Micah Cadis on production/guitar and Carlos Santos with the mixing. All together, they’re ending our year with one of our favorite pop tracks to surface and now the desirable need to check out everything else she’s been up to. From the looks of it, 2021 has been quite the busy year in terms of single releases, and we’re now hoping 2022 is just as packed.
On the background of the song, Justina says “Stamina” was written about her “endurance when it comes to chasing boys”. She used to love the chase, but now it’s about her “resilience and relentless pursuit of truth, and following the path that lights me up the most.
Putting the message aside for even just a moment, so much of what we enjoyed about this song was the even flow and almost sense of calm that it provided. While the production and instrumentation feel like they take a backseat and are there to create atmosphere, ultimately Justina’s vocals and presence are what took hold the most. We’re not surprised by that stylistic choice, however it was still the right one and added to the passion and emotion that the song held for us.
“Stamina” is so clearly a winner in terms of how a pop song should be done nowadays. Things don’t need to be over the top to grab people’s attention, because the artistry that one song can hold will surely grasp any focused listener.
