Jovelle Balani lets her vocals shine on debut single, "Ode to a Lover"
Look out world, Jovelle Balani has just released her debut single “Ode to a Lover” and it’s everything we could have hoped for! Please read on for our full review of the track, in addition to a background on the artist.
For this Filipino-Canadian artist, she’s seamlessly put together a relatively stripped back single that centers around her silky smooth vocals. It’s a nice hybrid of modern pop and jazz that ultimately comes together to create a relaxed musical environment. We’ve loved every moment of her debut “Ode to a Lover” and sincerely can’t wait for what’s next. If you’re into good music, this song is right up your alley.
Accompanied by a piano and what we think might just be a trumpet, Jovelle Balani’s voice is the obvious star of the show. Paired together with some clever songwriting and a unique vocal delivery, we really took to the atmosphere she’s created here. Honestly it’s an overall sound we’re not really hearing too much these days, but the thought behind that is maybe that others can’t quite pull it off. Jovelle clearly excels in this style of laidback mixed with compelling, so of course we were drawn to it immediately.
Considering that she’s not necessarily “new” to music since she’s been singing for a while, we’re thrilled that she finally took the plunge and recorded something original to herself. Of course there’s got to be some classic covers out there that we’re sure she’s slayed in the past, but going forward it can’t be overstated that a string of originals is what we want the most. So much of what we loved is just how versatile the song was as a whole too. It instilled that calming effect, so an entire record of tracks like these is what we’d want the most.
With all that being said though, Jovelle Balani is so clearly the real deal. There’s no superficial production effects to make up for vocals that are augmented, nope, what you’re getting is raw and impressive.
