Jon Slow explains the process behind long-awaited record, "Haystack Rock" - Interview
Freshly released after years of taking the time to masterfully put together, we got the special opportunity to speak with Jon Slow all about his newest record, Haystack Rock. Please enjoy our full interview with the artist below.
Jon Slow's latest album Haystack Rock is a testament to the power of perseverance and the importance of staying positive in the face of adversity. Drawing inspiration from his personal experiences and the cultural hub of Black Rock, this New England-based singer-songwriter has crafted a collection of acoustic-based rock songs that are both heartfelt and introspective. Luckily for us, we got the chance to speak all about his newest record in an interview that was truly wonderful.
The album starts out impeccably with Slow's gritty vocals and skillful guitar playing coming together to create a raw, organic sound. From there, the album moves through a variety of moods and styles, with each song telling a different story of love, loss, and the triumph of the human spirit. We spoke about in-depth during our chat, but honestly the immense amount of inspiration and genres that come into play was mind boggling in the best way possible. Considering how long he’s been making music for, and who he’s collaborated with, it honestly doesn’t come as a surprise.
One standout track is "Thinking of You", which captures the essence of Slow's message with its upbeat tempo and positive lyrics. Throughout the album, Slow's guitar playing is a standout feature, with his intricate fingerpicking and soulful solos adding depth and texture to each song. With the record being recorded in his living room studio over a purposefully undefined timetable, there's a sense of spontaneity and creativity that runs throughout. He mentioned he took his time and let the music sort of just flow out, which in our opinion is really the way to go. He clearly had so much fun in the process and we can only imagine the sweet relief of such a long project finally being wrapped up. In the coming year though there’s tons planned in terms of album release parties, hoping to get out there on the road, and potentially more music.
Overall, Haystack Rock is a deeply personal and heartfelt album that showcases Jon Slow's talents as both a musician and a storyteller. Through his music, he reminds us that no matter what challenges we face, there is always hope and a reason to keep moving forward.
