Joey Gonzalez debuts his upbeat and soulful new single, "Tonight"

Review by Austin Sher

Next up in Joey Gonzalez’s seemingly endless catalogue of hits is his newest, “Tonight”! Do yourselves a favor and read along for our full review of the single, in addition to a refresher on the artist himself.

Back again with another upbeat single is Joey Gonzalez. Just in case you don’t remember, we recently covered Joey’s previous single, “Over Me”, which you can find by clicking HERE. The man who consistently cranks out infectious pop tracks one after another is back with more on his newest, “Tonight”. We got some background on the newest track that we’d love to provide, in terms of adding context to what you’re about to hear.

“Tonight” deals with the real life struggle of so many people who live with anxiety and depression. The feelings are dark and brooding while you put on a happy and smiley face for most to see. While the sound of the song might be upbeat and almost cheery, the undertones of the song, especially within the lyrics, are typically difficult topics to speak about. However, Joey has always been open when crafting songs and that’s one of the things we love about his music the most.

According to Joey, “Toxic relationships or environments do more than damage the ability to enjoy life and a bright future, they draw out and emphasize your most vulnerable sides. The feelings of being trapped or held down are tough to navigate through but the harder truth to overcome is when you realize that you had a choice to leave and did not.” The musical direction represents the false self while the lyrics hold true to one's inner tug of war. The bridge creates the movement of change where the true self and outer shell finally unite and experience unite in walking towards healing.

One of the most important takeaways from “Tonight” is that If you struggle with finding the strength to stand up for yourself, Joey hopes this song encourages you to move away from two selves and become the 'ONE' you are meant to be. You have what it takes to rise up and live again. Love always finds a way!

Not only is he a lovely musician, but the man speaks the truth. After life experiences that can ultimately change you, it’s songs like these that can help with closure. Onto the song though, we really don’t have any negatives here to say, although we wish it were longer because it only clocks in at about two and a half minutes. Taking the lyrics aside, this is a fun and mostly acoustic bop that is sure to have you singing and moving by the end.

We can tell that month after month that we review Joey’s music, that he’s improving with every song he puts out. That includes his vocal range, the production of the song, and the high highs that he’s creating. As mentioned, while the songs are upbeat in nature, the inner workings of them come from a personal place that we think is so commendable to be able to speak about.

With all that being said, we’re highly recommending and encouraging you all to take a listen of “Tonight”, we promise you’ll enjoy what you hear. For all things Joey Gonzalez and to keep up with his future releases and news, please check out the following links below.
