JoeJas excels on experimental & expressive album, "Gaps & Nomads"

Extremely prolific within his releases, JoeJas has made his return for an outstanding new album titled Gaps & Nomads. We are loving it! Read on for a closer look at the record, in addition to a background on this artist.

Immersing himself within the music scene since he was 11 years old, learning the trade, and ultimately growing his now massive discography, JoeJas has impressed us on his latest album Gaps & Nomads. Known as HairyMuffinMan when producing others music, this artist has been racking up accolades consistently over the past years and we can confidently claim that it’s because his work thinks outside of the box in an incredibly crowded genre. If this happens to be your introduction to JoeJas, you’ve discovered him at the perfect time.

Always focusing on sampling, genre-blending, and attempting to go off the deep end in his world of creation, Gaps & Nomads has hit the mark in keeping our attention piqued from the opening notes. Coming in at 9 total tracks, spanning right around 21 minutes in length, it’s a relatively short album but it is 100% jam packed with expressive motifs and imagery-filled lyricism always painting a picture in the listener’s mind. Through this record, it’s actually unbelievable the amount of varied instrumentation that comes across your plate. Songs like “Sally’s Last Dance” are semi upbeat synth-based tracks, but then you’re hit right in the face with more perplexing listens like “Gappy’s Overalls” or “Suedeflips!”. A reverberating sentiment is that as complex and jarring some of these songs are sonically, JoeJas has still managed to create that coveted album experience, something that feels cohesive and complete from start to finish.

Recognized for his efforts after winning the Vans Musician Wanted Competition, and receiving praise from living legends Anderson .Paak and J.I.D., JoeJas honestly feels like he’s at a turning point in his career. Finally receiving the attention he so deserves, it’s living and breathing art pieces like this that are sure to turn heads. Even if you take the rich production and lyricism aside, the insane amount of passion and love that purely comes through in his delivery is more than enough to keep a new listener coming back for years to come. There’s an unbridaled amount of enthusiasm deep within Gaps & Nomads, and it’s why we can’t help but overwhelmingly recommend a listen!
