Jimbo deliver a touch of old & new on rock-filled EP, "A Sad Faces"
Seamlessly blending together a rock sound of the past with glimmers of the future, Jimbo’s latest EP A Sad Faces is nothing but pure gold. Please read on for a closer look into the record, as well as a background on these artists.
Since 2018, Jimbo has been on a consistent tear creating music that dares to think outside of the box. While the members initially meet at a music audition at Queens University, they’ve thankfully stuck together through thick and thin. On their newest EP, A Sad Faces, the trio has pulled from influences like Soundgarden and Smashing Pumpkins, but effortlessly infused a touch of modern into their grunge-filled sound.
Coming in at 5 total tracks, spanning a fairly even 20 minutes in length, this is a record that’s fueled with high-energy and blood pumping tracks. They kick off the listen with “Looking Down”, which we initially felt served as the ideal opener. It gives you all the reason in the world to keep listening through completely. Jam packed with memorable guitar riffs, a nostalgic sounding vocal presence, and touches of psychedelia, A Sad Faces is a record you should not be skipping over. What they’ve done specifically is create a cohesive sounding track list that literally builds in euphoria as you listen in. By the end, it’s exploding in sound and style, and immediately makes you want to hit the play button one more time.
With so many genre inspirations like Prog, Psych Rock, Post-Rock, and more, Jimbo continues to stand out because they don’t stick to one specific thing. Do yourselves a favor and listen to the rest of their discography to fully get the feel and understanding for what we’re talking about. They do the difficult task of keeping you on your toes and making it feel like infinite surprises might be around the corner. Every song here feels like a standout and could individually be picked to be playlisted, but the magic truly comes through when you listen uninterrupted from start to finish.
All that being said, let us not spoil anything else before you listen in. Check out the links below so that you can dive in, follow along, and stay tuned for everything else coming from the band!
