Jessamine Barham & Natasha Kozaily collaborate on a lovely duet, "Home"
Reaching prolific status with the amount of quality music that releases, Jessamine Barham is back, but this time with a collaborator Natasha Kozaily on their newest single, “Home”. Please keep reading as we share our thoughts on the song, as well as a background on these artists.
The music of Jessamine Barham has been all over our radar throughout the past year, and while we’ve collectively loved all of it, this newest release is certainly a pivot from what we’ve been used to. On her newest single “Home” that happens to be a duet with her teacher Natasha Kozaily, the two have delicately come together to share a stripped back acoustic performance that focuses on meaningful lyrics and the sheer beauty of their combined voices. It gave us chills on our first listen and we’re recommending everyone experience the same as soon as you can.
Comparing this to Jessamine’s recently released EP Outsider, it’s a night and day performance and genre switch. However, it superbly showcased her talents and breadth of creativity, focusing even more on her vocal range which really hits euphoric highs on “Home”. Typically on duets or general collaborations, we often run into the problem of artists taking up too much space or not enough when their name is featured on the track. In this scenario though, the composition and stylistic choice to essentially be a 50/50 mix of Jessamine and Natasha was wonderful. Each musician gets their own chunk of the song to tell their story, one after the other, then surprisingly they join in unison to wrap it up, bring it home, and show how unbelievably well they work together as harmonizers.
On future listens we’ll attempt to connect the dots within their lyrics, but there’s definitely a touch of introspection with an optimistic flair attached to this. Furthermore, it’s on the longer side comparatively to the rest of Jessamine’s discography, something we’ve had qualms about in the past. We love her sound in all iterations, but always wish it were longer. At just under three minutes in length, “Home” has the opportunity to breathe and allow the listener to immerse themselves into the overall aura and mood that it provides. Plain and simple, we cannot wait for listeners to click the play button.
